Blonde Hair Care

gentian violet blonde hair

I’ve only recently gone blonde (like two months ago), I was always a brunette. Being a ‘new’ blonde, I’m receiving all sorts of hints and tips from other blondes. I just have to share this haircare tip as it’s one of the things that actually works. The problem with hair that’s been dyed blonde is that it will always move towards a more yellow colour. If you, like me, prefer the ash blonde (or would just like to get rid of the yellow tones in your hair) then listen carefully!

All you need to do, is go to your local pharmacy and pick up a bottle of Gentian Violet. You can also get it from Clicks, it’s in the aisle with all the ‘natural’ remedies and it costs less that R20.

Go home, unscrew your shampoo bottle and add a couple of drops of the gentian violet to your shampoo. Don’t overdo it, a couple of drops will be just fine. If you add too much gentian violet you run the risk of dying your hair slightly purple. Make sure that your really mix the gentian violet in properly, give the bottle a good shake.

Now you just use your shampoo as usual. It will be slightly purple, but it won’t change anything else about your shampoo. It’s a great way to keep your blonde hair for longer, without going back to the hairdresser as often. I’ve been doing this for the last few months, and after every wash I can really see that my hair is a bit lighter, and the yellow tones definitely go away.
